FAQ

Will I be able to follow the service? Is it all in Hebrew?

Our prayer services are conducted in both Hebrew and English. The prayer books are in both Hebrew and English, with transliteration for the parts of the service read in unison in Hebrew. The page number is announced frequently throughout the service. Feel free to read at your own pace.

What “type” of service do you offer? Will I feel comfortable?

At Chabad you will always find a warm, welcoming and nonjudgmental environment. The style of our service is such that all Jews, regardless of background or affiliation, whether it be reform, conservative, orthodox or unaffiliated, are able to participate and enjoy. Our philosophy is that all Jewish people are one nation with one Torah. We say “labels are for clothing, not for people.”

Are services long and boring?

Absolutely not! Although we are not in a rush, our services are not long at all. Throughout the service, the meaning and background of many of the prayers will be presented, and many famous Jewish melodies will be included into the prayers. Our services are interactive, inspiring and educational.

Do I need to become a member? Do I need to buy a ticket?

You are not required to be a member of our synagogue in order to join our services, and we do not charge for seats. Throughout the year, all are welcome and no one is ever turned away due to lack of funds. We do appreciate the generous contributions made by those who participate in our services and programs, which allow us to keep our doors open to all.

Do I need to bring a yarmulke, tallit or prayer book?

We will provide all participants with all necessary provisions. If you would like to bring your own yarmulke or tallit, feel free to do so.

I would like to lodge near the synagogue. What accommodations are available?
